Alex had an accident 7 years ago when he went fishing in Ukraine. His fishing rod, held in his right hand, leaning against his shoulder, touched a power line, electrocuting him with a 10, 000 volt shock. As a consequence, Alex received a high voltage electrical burn injury of 3rd – 4th degree, 35 % TBSA, involving right upper and lower extremities, head, and trunk. His right forearm had to be amputated and he spent two months in the ICU in critical condition. Alex went through further prolonged treatment and prosthetic rehabilitation of his right arm at Shriners Hospital for burn Children, Boston. After having more than 20 surgical procedures he has now been able to resume “normal life.” Now his interests include crew rowing, soccer, martial arts, design and painting.
